Regardless of the fact that we have recently seen some of the worst economic times in history, there is one industry that is still booming...the wedding industry, people love a good wedding!
Way back in 2010, two years after the start of the latest recession, the office for national statistics in the UK recorded 277,736 weddings in the UK alone, that is more than 5,000 per week.
When you take into account that the average wedding, from engagement through to honeymoon, costs in the region of £36,000, that makes this a £10 Billion industry in just the UK!
Approximately £15,000 of the cost per wedding falls on the couple's shoulders for:
...with the average spend on photography between £1000 and £3000.
A whopping £21,000 per wedding is down to the guests and families as they fork out for:
These figures are actually smaller than before 2008 when troubles in the economy began, but recent figures show a steady incline once again so you can see why there is so much business to be had by all suppliers...including photographers.
Fancy some of that huge pie?
The figures for the USA make even more spectacular reading.
Every year in the US, there are approximately 2.5 million weddings...that is 48,000 a week with a total estimate spend of $70 billion! The average spend for a wedding photographer in the US is around $2,600...not bad eh and the projections look even better for the future.
More than two thirds of US couples wanted a mix of traditional and reportage photography with the rest opting more for candid wedding photography. Again, having the ability to diversify will allow your business to grow rapidly.
Well, along with increasing numbers like this comes increasing competition from all angles which is why any business within the industry needs to diversify, work harder and work smarter.
If you are looking to break into this industry, you need to arm yourself with all the necessary skills and knowledge and then attack it with gusto, wherever you live. This is why we created the Wedding Photography Blueprint, to help people get started THE RIGHT WAY.
You see, earlier this year, while in the middle of creating this project, I had a call from a lady in the US. She had photos taken by a poor amateur and asked for my help. They were either underexposed, incorrect white balanced or just plain awful.
She paid me half the average spend for a US photographer to correct 140 images and put them in a photobook and I guess the photographer has since had his/her fingers rapped with no referrals from that particular group. By skimping on the photography, she ended up spending almost the same anyway with substandard images (there was only so much I could do to retrieve most photos).
It is important to become the best you can when shooting a wedding.
The Wedding Photography Blueprint will not only give you the knowledge and skills to shoot a great wedding, but also the confidence to do it (and enjoy it) which is a major factor in the wedding photography business.
"All going well here. Had a productive first wedding season with 12 weddings all in all and quite a few booked for next year. It's been a very enjoyable learning curve and something I wouldn't have been able to start on without your excellent course! - Clive Nolan"
"Just wanted to say thanks. I got the DVD course at the end of last year in preparation for a friends wedding. I gave them the photos last week and they are absolutely thrilled. Definitely could not have done it without your help. The basic camera setting you recommend in the DVD was worth the price on it's own. I didn't get a single badly exposed shot " - Lee Brookes, UK."
"Nick, Thank you very much. I purchased your Wedding Blueprint last year. Last Saturday, I did my first wedding. I used a lot of your tips and everything went better than planned. Thank you, your DVD's gave me the confidence I needed to do the job. The photos turned out better than I could of expected. Now all I can think of is, Roll on wedding number two, three,......etc etc. - Mick Lumley, IRELAND "
"I am so glad that I got that problem with PayPal sorted. I received the discs a few days later and all I want to say is "Wow, probably the best tutorials I have ever bought". The professionalism of the videos, the way it then cuts to show the result in Photoshop is awesome. You've a great manner and no ego and I can see you really want to get it across to your students. - T.H. Dublin."
